It is critical that you make frequent backups of your Medisoft data. It's recommended to do it daily, or weekly at the very least. How long would it take you to re-create a weeks worth of data entry, or would it even be possible at all?
Here's how to make a Medisoft backup:
I recommend keeping at least a few weeks of backups handy in case you need to go back in time to find some Medisoft information.
This is a reminder to make sure everyone (except you) have signed out of Medisoft and Office Hours before attempting a backup: (for Network Professional users)

Browse to the location you wish to save your Medisoft backup to, enter a filename. I usually name the file with the date to help find the correct backup later.
And we recommend you save it to a different location other than the computer the data is on itself, such as an external hard drive or another computer.

Enter a Password if you'd like to secure the backup file, then click "Start Backup" to begin the process. Depending on the size of your Medisoft data, it could take anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes to complete.

You may have also noticed there is a menu item to "Backup Root Data". When you Backup Root Data, it backs up all of the Medidata Root Data folder (usually C:\Medidata), but not any subfolders.
You really only need to backup root data after the inital Medisoft registration or if you add a new practice to Medisoft.
So a backup is only as good as the restore, right? Well sometimes the Restore Root Data function doesn't work to well, but if you need help with it give us a call.
Sometimes the best thing to do is keep the registration printout which includes your SN# and Activation Codes, which is what you really need from the root data backup.
In summary, go ahead and backup your root data once, keep the registration information hand, and call us if you need help!
