Serious Warning: Make a current Backup of your Medisoft Data before proceeding.
The following steps creates a TWO-WAY connection between Medisoft and Excel. It is normally OK to "view" this data, but I would not recommend CHANGING any data in Excel while connected to Medisoft. You can seriously corrupt your Medisoft practice data beyond repair.
Note: You must first install the Advantage ODBC drivers from your Medisoft installation files.
The following screen example was done on Windows Vista, but it is very similar on Windows XP or Windows 7 operating systems.
Go to Control Panel and select Administrative Tools:
then ODBC Data Source Administrator:
Click Add to Create a New Data Source: (the System DSN tab)
and select Advantage StreamlineSQL ODBC and select Finish:
Now you need to configure the connection and tell Windows where the Medisoft database is located so it can use the ODBC driver with it to link applications like Excel.
Type in the full path to the data dictionary, in this example it is:
M:\medidata16\mwddf.add
Medisoft Data Export Advantage ODBC Driver Setup
Once you click OK, you should see the ODBC System DSN screen with the name you told it earlier:
To import into Excel 2003, click Data, Import External Data, then Import Data to see the following dialoge box:
Click on New Source to see the Data Connection Wizard:
Select the Medisoft data source:
Select the Medisoft Database and Table, in this case, the MWPAT Patient table and click Next:
Click Finish:
Click Open:
This is your FINAL WARNING: Make a current Backup of your Medisoft Data before proceeding.

Then, like magic, all your Medisoft data is populated into Excel!
